O. P. Sharma was born in 1932 in Bawal, Haryana. He studied drawing and painting at Meerut College. He also did his Diploma in Fine Arts at College of Art, New Delhi (Previously Delhi Polytechnic) in 1950s. Furthermore, Sharma did his post graduation in fine arts and art history at the Art Students League, New York from 1964 to 1966. Sharma had painted several complex and abstract paintings in his career and also experimented with the Neo-Tantric art theme in his work. Sharma had held several solo exhibitions at Lalit Kala Akademi, Delhi in 2007; Visual Art Gallery, IHC, Delhi in 2005; and Gallery Zen, Bangalore in 2001. He was honoured with several awards which include National award for Painting by Lalit Kala Akademi in 1969; several awards in State Exhibitions including First Prizes in Annual Art Exhibitions of the A.I.F.A.C.S., New Delhi in respective years of 1966, 1967, 1969; Delhi State Award from the Chief Minister of Delhi, 2003; Honorary membership of Russian Academy of Fine Art, Moscow; Life time Achievement Award by ART MALL, New Delhi in 2008. Sharma passed away in 2019.
