Description

She explores the expressive potential of diverse resources through works that are like shimmering fields of colour with recurring motives associated with the metaphors of light and time. Her works resonate with the duality of stillness and revolution, of inertia and motion, the Yin and the yang that govern many philosophies. She has gradually shifted from the earlier geometrical shapes approach to abstraction which was mysterious and thought provoking. She has created a place for herself in the mainstream contemporary art while creating sensitive works with immense aesthetic value. Born in 1947 at Delhi, Mona Rai studied Masters in Psychology at Delhi University along with art at Triveni Kala Sangam for a couple of years. Her works are part of several prestigious collections such as National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi; Lalit Kala Akademi; Air India; Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal, Punjab University Museum, Chandigarh and also in other private collections in India and abroad.
