Jagdish Dey’s art explores the surreal coexistence of reality and dreams. His early works featured transformed, fantastical landscapes defined by ethereally suspended, cloud-like forms. Transitioning later to figurative art, Dey captures the intricate, musical moods of both men and women within mystic, dreamlike sequences. A signature trope in his work is the flying female figure, which fosters harmony with her surroundings, alongside recurring peacocks that serve as a means of communication between subjects. Dey graduated from the School of Art, Delhi Polytechnic (1963) and taught at the College of Art, New Delhi (1965–2002). His acclaimed career is marked by multiple AIFACS and Sahitya Kala Parishad awards, an HRD Ministry Senior Fellowship, and the Lalit Kala Akademi National Academy Award.
