Description

Jagadish Dey, born in 1942, is widely known for his unique style of surrealism. Surrealism is an idea where the creative and imaginative potentialities of the artists are expressed through the coexistence of both real and unreal in the same frame. Dey has been a member of many art societies and juries. He did his graduation from Delhi Polytechnic (now College of Art, New Delhi) in 1963. In the early phase of his career, he has worked with several eminent artists like Manjit Bawa, Umesh Varma and Gokul Dembi. He has been felicitated with AIFACS Awards in 1969 and 1982, Sahitya Kala Parishad’s Award in 1981, 1982 and 1989, Senior fellowship awarded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in 1998 and National Academy Award by Lalit Kala Akademy, 2000. Dey’s artworks have been exhibited at various important galleries which include Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi, Dhoomimal Gallery, New Delhi, Taj Art Gallery, Mumbai, Sanskriti Art Gallery, Kolkata and many others
