Description

Artist Jagadish Dey was born in 1942. He studied art from Delhi Polytechnic (now College of Art) in 1963 and taught in the same institution between 1965 and 2002. He held many solo exhibitions at the Taj Art Gallery (Mumbai), Jehangir Art Gallery (Mumbai), Dhoomimal Art Gallery (New Delhi) and various other galleries. He showed his aworks at ‘’Appreciable Art’’ organized by Dhoomimal Gallery at Visual Art Gallery. He also participated in more than 100 group exhibitions in India and Abroad since 1961.

He has received many awards such as “Friends of Liberation War Honour” by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh in 2013, National Akademi Award in 2000, AIFACS Awards in 1977, 1969 and 1982. Sahitya Kala Parishad Awards in 1981, 1982 and 1989. KALA SHREE title given by AIFACS and -Senior Fellowship in Visual Art (1998-2000) by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Goverment of India. He was most recently felicitated at 31st Ravi Jain Memorial Awards opening ceremony for his long association with Dhoomimal Gallery, New Delhi. Jagadish Dey passed away on 22nd February 2023 in New Delhi.
