Divine Encounters is about human relationships & spirituality. The artist is grateful for his humble upbringing which remains in its purest form as he expresses on a canvas or a paper. Nawal Kishore, born in a family that made jewellery and sold, creativity was in his genes – “my parents also wanted me to be an artist”, shares Nawal.

He recollects of the days when he would paint the cinema posters by hand on plywood boards, iron sheets and cinema halls walls, unaware about the fact that ‘art’ was also a stream that was being taught in colleges. In 1995 he joined Lucknow College of Art and went ahead to finish his BFA and MFA, under the guidance and mentorship of Prof. B. N. Arya. Nawal’s works were greatly influenced by Prof. Arya and the gouache techniques which he experimented on canvases and paper by introducing new elements and geometrical forms. With keen observations and passion, Nawal is able to bring out emotions in each artwork that portrays the diverse kinds of love. In 2001, when he received the Garhi Research Grant, he was overwhelmed and felt more encouraged and sure about the path he had chosen. The artist acknowledges his learnings from his guru Neeraj Goswami, who’s hand-holding and guidance at every stage, helped Nawal to improvise and mature as an artist in his growing years.
The strong control in his works is a result of consistent practice and zeal, having worked on a ‘Series on Water’ - captured the widowed women in Banaras gathered on the banks of the Ganges who lived in pitiable conditions in search of the divine. ‘Beggar Series’ evoked feelings of empathy. The Series – ‘Revolution in the Sky’, depicted freedom at large. The ‘Nayaka Series’ - displayed the intense emotions of the actors on the stage and of those on the backstage. Then the ‘Life Series’, which conveyed the importance of basic things like Tap or a Key. A tap without water and a key without a lock holds no significance individually, the complimenting of each other is similar to even the smallest relations amongst human beings that matter. In the Divine Love Series, the artist emphasizes on pure love that is immortal which could be between a brother & sister, between two brothers, between two sisters, friends, lovers or as pious as between Hanuman & Sri Ram.
The endless love which keeps reactions alive, unlike the attraction which is temporary and ends as it phases out resulting in love to end. One notices the use of animal forms along with the human forms, mainly to cover their activity and interaction as a community that promotes love. The use of mixed media and pastels on imported board and the concern shown by the artist to use a good quality of paper and related medium to ensure long life and sustenance for art lover and connoisseurs. We hope the audiences partake in this ongoing journey of the artist and the artworks help each one of us to re-live moments of love in its true understanding and nature. To attain that divine connect
