Born in 1942 in Chennai, Govind Raman is a celebrated senior contemporary artist from peninsular India. He is regarded as one of the accomplished senior contemporary artists whose works have been presented in both national and international exhibitions. He did his Diploma in Fine Arts, General Drawing (Painting), and Advance Painting from Government College of Art and Craft, Chennai in 1967. Raman’s art involves glimpses of traditional Indian art with a combination of line, the ornate motif patterns and symbols. Apart from this, the artistic expressions found in the glorified work of Raman includes figures and events from Indian mythology. Raman is also well known for his portraits of contemporary Indian events that take place in a village setting. Raman is an accomplished artists whose works are part of many public and private collections and he has widely exhibited in India and abroad.
