Govind Raman (b. 1942) is a celebrated senior contemporary artist whose practice seamlessly weaves tradition with linear precision. After earning his diplomas from the Government College of Art and Craft, Chennai in 1967, Raman developed a signature visual language. His works are characterized by an intricate combination of lines, ornate motif patterns, and traditional symbols. Rooted in traditional Indian art, his imagery frequently depicts figures and events from Indian mythology, while also exploring Christian iconography and chronicling contemporary Indian events within village settings. Highly accomplished, Raman has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally, with his pieces housed in numerous prestigious public and private collections.
