Jogen Chowdhury (b. 1939)

Jogen Chowdhury, born in 1939 in Faridpur district of Bangladesh is an eminent Indian painter. He studied at the Government College of Art and Crafts, Kolkata from 1955 to 1960 and Ecole Nationale, Superieure des Beaux -Arts, Paris from 1965 to 1967 on a French government scholarship. Jogen himself is a master of lines and figures. Chowdhury describes his later works as “now more personalized and subtle”. He has exhibited his works at both national and international level, His recent solo exhibitions include ‘A Calligraphy of Touch and Gaze’, presented by Kalakriti Art Gallery at ICIA, Mumbai, in 2008; ‘Abahoman: Flowing Life’ at Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi, in 2007 and others. He has been felicitated with many awards and honours such as Kalidas Samman by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 2001.
