Sushil Sarkar (1902 - 1980)
Sushil Sarkar was born in 1902. He is well remembered for his prominent contribution in both art and art education in India. The description of traditional Indian figures in his art works involved stylistic influences ranging from Bengal school to Modernism. He worked as a Principal at the Government School of Art and Craft, Chandigarh from 1959 to 1975. He greatly improved the quality and training provided at this institution of art. He expanded this art school by exploring art history and promoting this art institution through distinguished journals such as the Illustrated weekly of India and Advance. He passed away in 1980.
