Laxman Pai, an eminent modern artist was born in 1926 in Margao, Goa. Being immensely inspired by nature, Pai went to receive art education from the Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai and from there went to Paris. Pai has had a number of solo exhibitions, of these nine have been held in Paris where he worked for 10 years. His exhibitions have been held in London, Munich, Stuttgart, Bremen, New York, San Francisco, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Goa. He has also participated in the Bribable San Paulo, Brazil. Laxman Pai is the recipient of three Lalit Kala Akademi national awards (1961, 1963 and 1972). He was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri by the Indian Government in 1985. The artist breathed his last in 2021
