Satish Gujral was a multi-faceted artist. He was a painter, sculptor and an architect all combined in one. He was born in 1925 in Jhelum (now in Pakistan). He studied art at Mayo School of Arts in Lahore where he studied applied arts and further studied at Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai. In 1952, he received a scholarship and went to Mexico and worked under artists Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqeuiros. Subsequently, he became a master of expressing the nuances and history with deep meanings, which set him apart efrom his contemporaries. As an architect, he designed the Belgium Embassy in New Delhi which received acclaim from the International Forum of Architects. He was also honoured with the Order of the Crown for Architecture, Belgium. The artist died in 2020.
