Gopal Samantray earned his B.F.A. (2002) and M.F.A. (2004) from the B.K. College of Art and Crafts, Odisha. Growiing up near lush forests, his artistic practice stems from a lifelong connection to nature and wildlife which reflects in his themes. Deeply passionate about color and the natural environment, he uses his paintings to confront the destructive impacts of rapid industrial development, specifically highlighting critical global issues like deforestation, climate change, and animal displacement. Drawing creative inspiration from the bold, revolutionary styles of Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí, Samantray’s vivid artwork ultimately serves as a powerful critique of human apathy toward the environment and a plea for empathy toward all living beings.
