Nand Katyal (b. 1935) is a celebrated contemporary artist who moved from Lahore to Delhi following the Partition. He studied Fine Art at the Delhi Polytechnic and served as secretary of the Delhi Silpi Chakra from 1963 to 1967. He was also the director of the 10th Triennale India in 2001. His acclaimed works are in the collections of institutions such as the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi. Finding deep inspiration in natural landscapes, Katyal reconstructs vivid memories of specific times and places on canvas. Using an array of tools, including brushes, his hands, palette knives, and cloths, he translates his emotions directly into paint, embracing an intense creative journey marked by both the struggle and joy of bringing an artwork to life.
