R. M. Palaniappan (b. 1957) is a pioneering contemporary printmaker and mixed-media artist who graduated from the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Chennai, and served as Regional Secretary of the Lalit Kala Akademi. Awarded the prestigious National Akademi Award in 1986, he is celebrated for his innovative mastery of graphic art, printmaking, and lithography. Palaniappan builds complex, texturized canvases using precise lines, diagrams, and mathematical symbols. His abstract works bridge the physical and psychological realms, exploring themes of time, cosmic space, and aerial terrains. Through his intricate, multi-layered techniques, he transforms two-dimensional surfaces into deep meditations on human consciousness and motion.
