Shobha Broota (b. 1943) is an acclaimed contemporary artist whose visual language is deeply informed by her initial training as a classical vocalist. Her minimalist, meditative abstractions seamlessly translate musical rhythm into visual form. Working across portraiture, figurative, and relief styles, Broota uses oils, acrylics, yarn, thread, and nets to infuse her art with an inherent, structural cadence. Broota earned her Sangeet Visharad (1962) and a Diploma in Fine Arts from the College of Art, New Delhi (1964). The recipient of an AIFACS Award and the Alva’s Varna Virasat Lifetime Achievement Award, her works are featured in prominent global collections, including the National Galleries of India and Malaysia.
